The song your band plays next. Once through on the drive patch, open chords, no stopping whatever happens. Wrong chord, keep the time going, fix it on the next bar.
Listen for open strings ringing between chord changes. That is the muting problem inside a song, and it is the thing the room hears as “messy”.
